Emily Traveller is a C4 paraplegic who shared her story recently in an assembly at Bella Vista High School. She was a former cheerleader and dancer for American Fork High School, but everything changed on April 22, 2022. At that time, she was a high school sophomore when she went riding on ATVs with her friends at Little Sahara Sand Dunes in western Utah. After riding for a while, her ATV rolled over and her C4 vertebrae was broken- causing her to be paralyzed from the shoulders down.

She was then transported to Craig Hospital in Colorado to start her spinal cord injury rehabilitation. During that time, she was still in school which meant she couldn’t finish her education, but through Craig’s school program she was able to graduate on time with her class.
It made people realize that even with all the hardships and struggles, people can find a way to succeed. Emily Traveller even found ways to do her favorite activities, like when she climbed Mount Timpanogos, which has an elevation of 11,800 feet, in 12 hours.
One student has said that, “It was really crazy how somebody can go from having such a normal life to being paralyzed, traveling around the United States talking about her story.”
Another student added that, “The assembly was very powerful, and truly showed that adversity is possible, no matter what situation you are in.”
Her assembly was such a great thing to see, demonstrating her success despite her struggles with being paralyzed. She even let students at Bella Vista talk to her at the end of her presentation, showing her true passion in public speaking.
Her story, along with her passion for public speaking, has left a mark on the Bella Vista population.
