BV Newsroom

Fair Oaks, CA - September 17, 2025

Bella Vista High School is not just a great place to get a well-rounded education. It is also the breeding ground for a variety of flourishing extra-curricular activities like sports, clubs, performing arts, and academic teams. Stepping foot onto this campus any random weeknight during the school year is always so exciting- there's always something special going on!

That also means that this school's amazing students are always accomplishing incredible things inside and outside of the classroom. AP students are acing tests, athletes are breaking school records, performing arts students and academic teams are winning competitions, and students are always up to amazing things!

I always hear about all of these incredible things that my classmates are achieving- but not a lot of people seem to know about it! Yes, we had a basic school newsletter and BVTV- which do a wonderful job of giving us a news rundown and shining a light on some student achievements- but writing has a special way of capturing the stories of students. A group of friends and I realized that starting a student-run newspaper with student-written articles could really benefit this school by recognizing achievements and also teaching students basic journalism in the process.

As we dug into the idea a little bit deeper, we found that our school did have a student-run newspaper from 2020-2023, called the BV Newsroom- and they did a fantastic job! They wrote articles about everything- school news, world news(COVID-19 was a big theme in those), athletics and performing arts, interviews with teachers and students, and even film reviews! The articles were really well done and we took some great inspiration from them(you can find them on this site under "BV Newsroom archive").

However, the paper was not active for the '23-'24 and '24-'25 school years, and we're not exactly sure why. It's possible that the amount of seniors graduating overbalanced the amount of new students joining, or the students just became burnt out(it's not easy!).

So, we are taking it up on ourselves to take on the mantle of the BV Newsroom- although that mantle was picked up a little later than probably expected. We are going to continue some of the traditions of the previous BV Newsroom- a similar format, writing style, and distribution process- but also incorporate some of our own visions- an updated, more easily accessible website, more content, a new logo, and "student opinion" articles.

We also want to thank you, the readers! Reading our article will help boost the platform and spread news to more BV students! We cannot wait to post more articles- we have so many ideas ready to go! On the front page, you will find our most recent articles, and articles by category. Those articles will be split into 4 groups- school news, athletics/performing arts news, Bella Vista Vision(we ask students for their opinions on world news topics), and the "Horse Radish" - the Bella Vista Version of the satirical paper The Onion.

Here's a little peek into what you might expect from each category. For the school news, you can expect us to report on some basic school news and club activities. For example, if a new club wants to be advertised, we could write an article about them. If a new class is offered at the school, we would report and that and maybe ask the teacher what students can expect.

For athletic/performing arts reporting, we hope to conduct actual post-game/performance interviews with students to feature in articles about their achievements. For example, if a student wins an 800m track race, we would try to catch them after the race and ask them some questions(with their consent) along the lines of "How do you find the motivation to push yourself even when tired?" or "How did you prepare for this race?" Their answers would then be featured in an article outlining their achievement.

For the "Bella Vista Vision" section, we will be asking students about the biggest headlines in world news and their opinions on them. For example, a plan that we have for an article to is to ask students their opinions on the future of AI. We might interview 20 students on the topic, and then summarize the patterns we saw. We can cover so many topics this way- science, technology, politics, or even movie reviews, like the old BV Newsroom did. This is something we are particularly excited about.

In "The Horse Radish," you will find satirical articles about world events or even school events(of course, it will only be playful fun with people's consent). This will be a section we will post in less frequently, but it will be an opportunity for our writers to make humorous articles.

You can expect about 4 articles per week from us- we cannot wait to provide engaging and informative content for you all. Thank you, and happy reading!
