Time moves fast when you’re out everyday practicing, working hard, and having fun- especially in tennis. As our BV Boys' Tennis team reaches the midway point of their season, the finish line is in sight and it’s a good time to see where they are, how they have improved individually, how the team has improved, and how they can do better. As of right now, the team is 2-7 and is hungry for another win. The remainder of this season and next season hold a lot of hope, as this team has made major improvements throughout the season- and every player will return next season, possibly with some new players (the team has no seniors)!
I had the privilege of interviewing two of the team's members, sophomore Joshua Jhang (who is a co-captain) and freshman Jasper Charlton, about how their season is going both individually and the team's season as a whole. Below is our complete interview, slightly edited for flow and grammar, but the meaning has been preserved:

Q: To start off, how is your season going individually?
Joshua: My season has been going pretty good! I've felt improvement every game with my swings and my mental game.
Jasper: It's been going good! I've enjoyed being with the team and the laughs we've shared.
Q: What can you do to improve?
Joshua: I can improve by learning to focus on the point that is ahead of me instead of regretting the last one.
Jasper: I need to expand my arsenal, meaning that I won't be as predictable on the court with only one or two moves.
Q: What have you done well this season?
Joshua: I've done pretty well showing up to practice and putting work in on and off school grounds.
Jasper: I have improved so much since joining. This is the most athletic thing I've done since Little League Baseball!
Q: How do you feel that the team has done as a whole this season?
Joshua: I feel that the team is growing and improving fast, and that this season is excellent practice for next season.
Jasper: Being with my fellow teammates has been a blast and I can't wait until I get to help next year's team and watch them grow.

This season has also been a period of change for the team, with the hiring of two new coaches- Bobby and Mike- as well as the return of a former one- coach Chris. The three of them have been working in tandem to run practices every day after school from 3:30-5:30, as well as some weekends at Miller Park.
In addition to new coaches, the team is also seeing a youth movement. As mentioned before, there is currently not a single senior on the team. The bulk of the team is sophomores and juniors, setting them up for a very successful next two years. A few non-freshmen also joined the team for their first year- props to them!
As echoed in the interview, tennis is a sport that requires intense focus and will definitely tire you out. As the coaches say, most of the game is mental. You always have to be focused on the next point, not the previous one- or else your match may spiral out of control! Congratulations to the team for managing this difficult sport and improving so much!
